Hytale First Look: Chapter 1, Goblins, Minigames and Everything Coming in 2026

Hytale's Chapter 1 lands in 2-3 months. Here's everything from Simon's July 2026 First Look: the goblin faction and Goblin Breach world event, the new ability rune system, 14 party minigames, hardcore mode, cubic-chunk world tech, the in-game mod browser, and the full release timeline.

On July 16, 2026, Game Director Simon shared Hytale's biggest "First Look" yet—a deep dive into Chapter 1 and the wave of features arriving before and after it. It's the clearest picture of Hytale's direction since the Early Access launch back in January, and it's packed with new content: a full goblin faction, a brand-new world event, an ability system built around runes, 14 party minigames, hardcore mode, and a ground-up world engine rebuild.

Here's everything that was announced, organized so you can find what matters to you—plus the release timeline for when each piece actually lands.

What Is Chapter 1?

Chapter 1 is the first of Hytale's episodic content drops, and it's expected to launch within the next 2-3 months. Rather than a single monolithic "Adventure Mode," Hytale is rolling out its story and world content in chapters, with Chapter 1 focused on NPCs and the goblin faction. Think of it as the first real slice of the handcrafted, quest-driven Hytale that players have been waiting for since the game's Early Access launch.

Dungeons and Boss Fights

Chapter 1 introduces Hytale's first handcrafted dungeon, complete with a multi-phase boss fight. Powering it is a new system called the Encounter Manager, already available in the current pre-release.

What makes this exciting for the community: the Encounter Manager treats phases, wave spawns, and arena changes as content rather than engine code. That means designers—and modders—can build their own encounters and boss fights without touching the underlying engine. Expect a flood of community-made dungeons once this is in players' hands.

The Goblin Faction

Chapter 1 centers on goblins, and they're far more than generic enemies:

  • Variety - Goblins come in different shapes with distinct roles and personalities
  • Elite enemies - Specialized goblins like the Feastmaster call in reinforcements mid-fight and deal serious damage
  • Friendly goblins - Not every goblin wants to fight; some run shops and trade with players

The Goblin Breach

The headline feature is the Goblin Breach, a world event that opens temporary portals to unstable fragments of Orbis controlled by goblins—with a growing Void presence. Key details:

  • The world regenerates each visit, so there's always new content to explore
  • Players explore, collect loot, and resist mounting Void pressure
  • The Forgotten Temple acts as a progression hub across Early Access chapters

Activities inside the Breach include predator tracking and trapping, Void assassins, treasure chests that spawn enemy waves, environmental puzzles, and additional world events layered on top.

Goblin Gadgets and Carryable Objects

Chapter 1 leans into a "scrappy" design philosophy—prioritizing fun over perfect balance—with a batch of new gadgets:

  • Rocket boots
  • Mechanical hookshot
  • Glider
  • Mining drill
  • Spyglass
  • Boats

There's also a new carryable objects mechanic: players can pick up and carry blocks and objects like chests and explosive barrels. Down the line, this ties into a downed-combat state that will let you rescue fallen teammates—carrying them to safety.

Abilities and Runes

One of the most significant additions is a new ability system built on equippable runes. Here's how it works:

  • Ability runes determine the base power (for example, a Fireball projectile)
  • Modifier runes change the effect or behavior—splitting a Fireball into multiple projectiles, or making it apply a shock debuff

The system is designed around four layers of creativity:

  • Modifier runes that enhance ability effects
  • Elemental interactions (water + shock = a reaction)
  • Cooperative combos with teammates
  • Environmental interactions

Chapter 1 launches with roughly six ability runes and a similar number of modifier runes. Abilities occupy two new inputs (E and R) alongside your weapon's signature abilities.

Minigames Arrive

For the first time, Hytale is launching an experience outside of Exploration and Creative modes: a collection of fast, party-style micro-games.

  • 14 games at launch, each lasting 60-120 seconds
  • Supports both peer-to-peer and dedicated hosting
  • Future expansions planned for persistent and PvP games
  • Modders and server operators can build their own minigames, with code, assets, and developer libraries provided

That last point is a big deal for the community: Hytale is handing over libraries drawn from 13 years of Hypixel Server experience and 45 million unique players. If you're eyeing running your own minigame server, this is the foundation. (New to server types? Read our guide to every kind of Hytale server.)

Engine and Visual Upgrades

Real Transparency

The engine now supports true transparency for stained glass and window blocks, and NPCs and entities can feature transparent parts.

New UI

A multi-chapter UI rollout begins with Chapter 1. The chapter screen doubles as a progression roadmap, and new item tooltips improve readability. A Memories UI and player profile cards are planned beyond Chapter 1.

Cosmetics and Avatar Creator

New cosmetics arrive alongside goblin-themed rewards for completing the chapter, and the Avatar Creator gains detailed hand and eyelash options.

Before and After Chapter 1

Simon also detailed a long list of features shipping around Chapter 1—some the same day as the post, others further out.

Player Physics (shipping now)

Avatars can stand on moving entities, stay anchored during movement, and carry momentum when jumping. This lays the groundwork for parkour with moving platforms.

Mod Browser

In-game browsing, installing, and updating of mods—without ever leaving Hytale. All mods stay free, and future updates will let you directly support creators with unique cosmetics, building a rewards ecosystem for modders.

New World Tech: Cubic Chunks

A major engine renovation moves Hytale to fully 3D cubic chunk loading instead of column-based generation, enabling infinite world height and depth. It's already rolling out in early stages, with volumetric cloud experiments underway.

World Generation V2

WorldGen V2 continues with graph-based generation, starting with advanced procedural caves and expanding to procedural dungeons, villages, cities, rivers, and roads. The level design team has doubled in size for a full world redesign. (See our deep dive on the 2026 roadmap.)

Living Creatures

Animal models, textures, and animations are being reworked toward Hytale's iconic style. Birds sleep in nests and fly in flocks, owls and raptors hunt smaller creatures, and foxes follow owners, stalk prey, and play with players. Kweebecs get behavior updates too—Seedlings follow players, while Saplings nurture local fauna and flora.

Crafting Rework (Chapter 2)

Core crafting is being overhauled with fewer benches and more in-world activities like wood chopping and metalworking. A Companions system is planned—invite companions to your home to help with busywork, each with unique traits and schedules.

Machinima, Spectator and Hardcore Mode

The Machinima tool is being rewritten with gameplay recording and collaborative multi-Avatar editing. Spectator mode lets eliminated players watch teammates in co-op and minigames, and Hardcore Mode brings permadeath worlds for solo, co-op, or dedicated servers.

Spatial Music

World blocks can now emit music with audio occlusion—fading with distance and muffling through walls—plus new OST tracks, including one from Whisperfrost Frontiers.

Release Timeline

Here's when each announced feature is expected to land, straight from the First Look:

What This Means for Servers and Players

The through-line of this First Look is moddability. The Encounter Manager, minigame libraries, moddable spectator and hardcore modes, and the in-game mod browser all point to the same thing: Hytale wants creators and server owners building on top of Chapter 1 from day one. For the community, that means a fast-growing library of custom dungeons, minigames, and game modes in the months ahead.
